Over the years, Berlin has forged a reputation as one of the best cities worldwide for artists. A recent survey conducted by the Institute for Strategy Development (IFSE) found that although the German capital is supposed to be a great place for artists to live, earning a living there is exceedingly difficult. The research also examined the artist population in four major cities worldwide, finding that New York still has a higher density of artists then Berlin. The Big Apple has 2.35 artists per 1,000 of its inhabitants while Berlin has 2.16.
