Brown vs. Board of Education, the landmark Supreme Court case that declared the idea of “separate but equal” education unconstitutional, turns 65 years old this year. Despite being decades old, roughly half of school districts in the United States have not achieved racial diversity, still operating under a separate and unequal system.
In addition to the number of racially concentrated schools that EdBuild found, researchers also found that predominately non-white school districts receive less revenue per student when compared to predominantly white school districts. For every student enrolled, the average nonwhite school district receives over $2,000 less than a predominately white school district.
