According to a new study by IHS Markit and the Wireless Broadband Alliance, 1.75 billion people in the world's eight richest nations still lack broadband connectivity. 34 percent of them are urban dwellers. The trend is far more pronounced in larger developing countries with 38 percent of Brazil's urban population classified as unconnected. Chinese cities also have serious work to do when it comes to broadband - 34 percent of its urban citizens are still disconnected.
Interestingly, the United States has a higher rate of urban unconnected individuals than Russia. Just under a quarter of U.S. city dwellers still lack broadband access. The lowest rates were found in Japan (15 percent), the United Kingdom (13 percent) and Germany (11.5 percent).
