U.S. Meatpacking Plants Remain Pandemic Hotspots

The U.S. meat processing sector is still struggling to contain a spate of coronavirus outbreaks in the wake of President Trump declaring meatpacking facilities essential businesses that must remain open. The Midwest Center for Investigative Reporting has now found that 216 plants have been impacted across 33 states. Despite security measures such as social distancing, temperature checks and plastic barriers, 74 workers have now died due to COVID-19.

This infographic shows the meat processing companies that recorded the most cases up to June 08, 2020. Tyson Foods is the worst-affected company by far with over 7,000 confirmed cases, followed by JBS (2,642) and Smithfield Foods (1,705).
